Burned Area Emergency Response (BAER) reports are assessments done after a major wildfire to evaluate primarily post-fire risks to life and property, but also to other resources as relevant, particularly threatened and endangered species. Team recommendations can be used to obtain funding for improvements to storm and snowmelt runoff control, road protection or obliteration, infrastructure repairs, fish passage needs, etc. Although generally available in electronic (PDF) format, these documents are generally not available to the public unless formally requested from the Forest, which may require use of the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA).
